Nigerian Acting President Yemi Osinbajo extends 2017 N-Power registration deadline to 27 July 2017

Nigerian Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has extended this year’s N-Power application by two weeks. The application portal at www.npower.gov.ng would now close
on July 27.

Last year, the Federal Government undertook the largest post-tertiary recruitment exercise in Africa when it engaged 200,000 young Nigerians in the N-Power Volunteer Corps Programme.
In partnership with state governments, these 200,000 young Nigerians were deployed to public primary schools, primary healthcare centres and agriculture development project centres in all the local government areas in the country.

The Federal Government’s strategy uses the large volunteer workforce to address some of the perennial problems besetting the country-unmanned classrooms due to low teacher to pupil ratio in public primary schools; high rate of preventable diseases; lack of science
and knowledge to bolster agriculture production.

This year, N-Power is recruiting an additional 300,000 to bring the total number to 500,000. The application process has seen well over 2.45 million applicants. The Acting President, while extending the two-week grace period, assured that the selection process for the second batch would match the first, as it would be characterised by transparency.
The hallmark of the N-Power process, as indeed all other National Social Investments Programmes, has been run to be devoid of manipulation and undue influence to reach the common Nigerians who really need help.

Osinbajo also activated the delivery process for the N-Power Devices, as the administration is using technology to drive the capacity building and skills development needs of the N-Power.
With the devices, the government is providing training on three fronts, namely, to build capacity to undertake primary assignments, build capacity to make young people employable and build capacity around exit skills to prepare them for more economic endeavours.
Also, working with the Bank of Industry (BoI), the government has been able to stimulate demand for tablets and content produced by Nigerian companies.

[NAIJA NEWS] Federal Government Set To Appeal Saraki’s CCT Trial Acquittal

Special Assistant to the President on Prosecutions, Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla, said on Saturday that the Federal Government had finalised its decision to appeal last Wednesday’s ruling of the Code of Conduct Tribunal discharging and acquitting the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, of charges of false asset declaration.
Obono-Obla, who vowed that no one would be allowed to get away with any act of corruption, said in a telephone interview with our correspondent that the government would file a notice of appeal against Saraki’s acquittal by Wednesday.
According to The PUNCH, the presidential aide, who works in the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, argued that the two-man panel of the CCT led by Danladi Umar, misapplied the law by adopting the wrong standard of proof in exonerating Saraki.
He said;
“Definitely we are going to appeal against the ruling in Saraki’s case. One of our grounds of appeal is that the tribunal misapplied the law. For instance, the standard of proof that the tribunal used is not applicable to charges of false declaration of asset.
“It (charge of false asset declaration) is a strict liability offence, so you cannot apply the standard of proof that is applied in the regular criminal proceedings.
“Surely, we will file the appeal next (this) week Wednesday.”
Obono-Obla had earlier in an interview with The PUNCH, described the CCT ruling discharging Saraki as a travesty of justice, pedestrian and outrageous.
He said on Saturday that the government was resolute in its fight against corruption and would appeal against all the recent “nonsensical” rulings delivered in some high-profile corruption cases.
Obono-Obla said;
“We are resolute. We are going to fight this war to the end. We must clean up Nigeria, otherwise the nation is doomed. We have gone back to the drawing board to change our tactics and strategies.
“Anybody who thinks he can get away with an act of corruption is dreaming. We are going to file an appeal against all the nonsensical rulings that we have got from our court in recent times.”
The Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja on Wednesday discharged and acquitted Saraki of all the 18 charges of false asset declaration and other related offences against him.
The two-man panel of the CCT led by its Chairman, Umar, unanimously upheld the no-case submission which Saraki filed after the prosecution closed its case with the fourth and the last prosecution witness testifying on May 4, 2017.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has released the result of the Computer Based Test of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, for the 57,000 candidates that wrote the examination on Saturday.
This is as racketeers have allegedly duped some of the candidates by selling fake examination questions they tagged, ‘origi’ for N200,000 which JAMB latter discovered that the questions were the JAMB questions in 1984.
Speaking to journalists after monitoring the examination on Monday, the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede disclosed that the result of UTME that was taken on Saturday by over 57,000 candidates had been released.
He also said that the examination could not go on at the Lagos State University of Technology, LAUTECH because of the ongoing strike in the institution, saying that if the strike was not called off by today (Monday), the authorities of JAMB will have no other option than to relocate the candidates to University of Ilorin which he said was the nearest centre from Ogbomosho.
Meantime, security operatives have arrested one of the “candidates”in Aba, Abia state for allegedly attacking the JAMB officials that prevented him from gaining entry into the exam centre.
