Nigerian Acting President Yemi Osinbajo extends 2017 N-Power registration deadline to 27 July 2017

Nigerian Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has extended this year’s N-Power application by two weeks. The application portal at www.npower.gov.ng would now close
on July 27.

Last year, the Federal Government undertook the largest post-tertiary recruitment exercise in Africa when it engaged 200,000 young Nigerians in the N-Power Volunteer Corps Programme.
In partnership with state governments, these 200,000 young Nigerians were deployed to public primary schools, primary healthcare centres and agriculture development project centres in all the local government areas in the country.

The Federal Government’s strategy uses the large volunteer workforce to address some of the perennial problems besetting the country-unmanned classrooms due to low teacher to pupil ratio in public primary schools; high rate of preventable diseases; lack of science
and knowledge to bolster agriculture production.

This year, N-Power is recruiting an additional 300,000 to bring the total number to 500,000. The application process has seen well over 2.45 million applicants. The Acting President, while extending the two-week grace period, assured that the selection process for the second batch would match the first, as it would be characterised by transparency.
The hallmark of the N-Power process, as indeed all other National Social Investments Programmes, has been run to be devoid of manipulation and undue influence to reach the common Nigerians who really need help.

Osinbajo also activated the delivery process for the N-Power Devices, as the administration is using technology to drive the capacity building and skills development needs of the N-Power.
With the devices, the government is providing training on three fronts, namely, to build capacity to undertake primary assignments, build capacity to make young people employable and build capacity around exit skills to prepare them for more economic endeavours.
Also, working with the Bank of Industry (BoI), the government has been able to stimulate demand for tablets and content produced by Nigerian companies.

[NAIJA NEWS] Federal Government Set To Appeal Saraki’s CCT Trial Acquittal

Special Assistant to the President on Prosecutions, Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla, said on Saturday that the Federal Government had finalised its decision to appeal last Wednesday’s ruling of the Code of Conduct Tribunal discharging and acquitting the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, of charges of false asset declaration.
Obono-Obla, who vowed that no one would be allowed to get away with any act of corruption, said in a telephone interview with our correspondent that the government would file a notice of appeal against Saraki’s acquittal by Wednesday.
According to The PUNCH, the presidential aide, who works in the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, argued that the two-man panel of the CCT led by Danladi Umar, misapplied the law by adopting the wrong standard of proof in exonerating Saraki.
He said;
“Definitely we are going to appeal against the ruling in Saraki’s case. One of our grounds of appeal is that the tribunal misapplied the law. For instance, the standard of proof that the tribunal used is not applicable to charges of false declaration of asset.
“It (charge of false asset declaration) is a strict liability offence, so you cannot apply the standard of proof that is applied in the regular criminal proceedings.
“Surely, we will file the appeal next (this) week Wednesday.”
Obono-Obla had earlier in an interview with The PUNCH, described the CCT ruling discharging Saraki as a travesty of justice, pedestrian and outrageous.
He said on Saturday that the government was resolute in its fight against corruption and would appeal against all the recent “nonsensical” rulings delivered in some high-profile corruption cases.
Obono-Obla said;
“We are resolute. We are going to fight this war to the end. We must clean up Nigeria, otherwise the nation is doomed. We have gone back to the drawing board to change our tactics and strategies.
“Anybody who thinks he can get away with an act of corruption is dreaming. We are going to file an appeal against all the nonsensical rulings that we have got from our court in recent times.”
The Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja on Wednesday discharged and acquitted Saraki of all the 18 charges of false asset declaration and other related offences against him.
The two-man panel of the CCT led by its Chairman, Umar, unanimously upheld the no-case submission which Saraki filed after the prosecution closed its case with the fourth and the last prosecution witness testifying on May 4, 2017.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has released the result of the Computer Based Test of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, for the 57,000 candidates that wrote the examination on Saturday.
This is as racketeers have allegedly duped some of the candidates by selling fake examination questions they tagged, ‘origi’ for N200,000 which JAMB latter discovered that the questions were the JAMB questions in 1984.
Speaking to journalists after monitoring the examination on Monday, the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede disclosed that the result of UTME that was taken on Saturday by over 57,000 candidates had been released.
He also said that the examination could not go on at the Lagos State University of Technology, LAUTECH because of the ongoing strike in the institution, saying that if the strike was not called off by today (Monday), the authorities of JAMB will have no other option than to relocate the candidates to University of Ilorin which he said was the nearest centre from Ogbomosho.
Meantime, security operatives have arrested one of the “candidates”in Aba, Abia state for allegedly attacking the JAMB officials that prevented him from gaining entry into the exam centre.

[Naija News] BREAKING News: DSS Arrests Nigerian Billionaire, Ifeanyi Ubah Over N11b Oil Theft

Oil mogul and billionaire, Ifeanyi Ubah has been arrested by men of the Department of State Security Services over N11bn oil theft.
Ifeanyi Ubah, the managing director of Capital Oil and Gas Limited has been arrested by the Department of State Services.
The agency revealed the arrest today in a statement by spokesman, Tony Opuiyo.
Opuiyo said Ubah was arrested on Friday in connection the theft of petrol kept in his tank farm in Lagos by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. The product was valued at over N11 billion.
The agency said Ubah’s action amounted to economic sabotage, with “capacity to negatively impact on national economy”.
Opuiyo gave additional reasons for Ubah’s arrest. He said he has further engaged in other activities inimical to national security and public order.
“In furtherance of his gimmicks to undermine the government and people of Nigeria, he has incited members of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), a critical player in the downstream sub-sector of the Petroleum Industry, to refuse/stop the lifting of products.
“This is part of his plans to curry their sentiments and cause them to embark on strike and also stage protests in his favour with the ulterior motive of arm-twisting the NNPC to abandon the cause of recovering the stolen products.
The implications of this on law and order is, in fact, a common knowledge. It is consequent upon this that the Service arrested and will prosecute him forthwith.
” The public is hereby reassured that the Service will collaborate with appropriate agencies to ensure that the mischievous activities of any person or group(s) to engage in illegal activities will not affect the effective distribution of products across the country. It will also support such agencies to bring to book individuals or companies involved in any criminal act that undermines the nation’s economy”.

Why President Buhari Must Resign Now Shehu Sani Shares Vital Reasons

Abdulmumini Shehu Sani, the Chairman of the Katsina State Chapter of National Conscience Party, NCP, and a resident of Katsina State has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign and attend to his health issues.
Speaking in the state, Sani said Buhari cannot hold Nigerians to ransom with his health condition as there were other people better positioned to lead Nigeria.
He noted that those playing with the health condition of the President were only bent on destroying the nation and the President himself.
According to Sani, “In whatever situation of life, health matters and you cannot lead without proper health. You cannot be a dictator or mentor without proper and adequate health. And you cannot think and do the right thing without health.
“Let’s look at Nigeria as a whole that comprises over 180 million people, inasmuch as the leader (Buhari) is incapable based on his health status, let us follow the rule of law constitutionally for him to resign.
“His incapacitation cannot take us anywhere. It is better for him to resign. I can call him my father because he was a school mate to my late father, Shehu Sani, at the Government College,Katsina.
But the truth is the Nigerian constitution should not be manipulated to favour one person.
“If we want to be fair to ourselves, he should resign, he is not the only one that can lead Nigeria to the right direction. Let him resign and go back to his family so that he can receive proper medications so that he will be free from the burden of tension from Nigerians and recover.”

[Naija News] || Nawa Oh! Female Preacher Declares Herself God (Photos)

25-year-old Vicentia Tadagbe Tchranvoukinni, a female preacher, in Benin Republic, has declared that she is God and her mission on earth is to defeat the devil.
She claims she fell from heaven with the divine mission of tackling devil and his agents in the world.
Tchranvoukinni’s church has since been expelled from the Benin community of churches because of their charismatic theologies and clashes with other religions.
It was gathered that five members of her church suffocated to death after they were asked to lock themselves up inside a sealed room with burning incense while praying for deliverance.
Tchranvoukinni who is said to call herself ‘Perfect’ and ‘God’s Holy Spirit’, has also ordained her partner, Pope Christopher XVIII.

The Church’s spokesman Cardinal Cesaire Agossa who has continued to defend Tchranvoukinni, insists that she is a divine messenger.
“People do not understand that the Holy Spirit Creator of Heaven and Earth uses the body of Perfect as its temple.
Her mission is to end the reign of Beelzebub, to succeed in exterminating sorcery and all evil spirits that prevent mankind from developing.”
Tchranvoukinni claims she fell from the sky in northern Benin and was found by a Fulani shepherd in the bush. Her story is a take on immaculate conception.
Tchranvoukinni started the church after meeting her partner, a Catholic priest, Mathias Vigan, from the parish of Sainte-Odile-de-Baname in 2009.
“Perfect” was not yet 20 and had come to be exorcised. But it was the young woman who captivated the man of the cloth, whom she would later install as “Pope Christopher XVIII”.
The religious odd couple built up their own congregation and to the chagrin of the Catholic church, Vigan started wearing all-white outfits similar to papal regalia — ornate mitre and all.
Tchranvoukinni meanwhile called herself God.

[Naija News] || Constitutional Dilemma: Buhari Gets Two Weeks Ultimatum To Return To Nigeria

An advocacy group, Concerned Nigerians, has given Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari a two weeks ultimatum to return to Nigeria and resume his office as the President as well as continue the mandate given to him by Nigerians during the 2015 elections.
The group said should President Buhari fail to return within fortnight, it would storm the streets of Nigeria on peaceful protest.
It said in a statement signed by its convener, Prince Deji Adeyanju on Saturday, that although President Buhari handed-over presidential powers to his vice and now Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, he still on two occasions performed two Presidential functions even while abroad on medical vacation, a development the group describe as a “constitutional dilemma”.
The group said President Buhari must return to Nigeria since even the circumstances surrounding his actual health status have been kept secret from Nigerians who ought to know the situation concerning their president.
“Today – March 4th, 2017 marks 45 days of President Muhammadu Buhari’s absence from his office as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and from the country as a whole on a medical vacation in the United Kingdom.”
“During this period, he has not made any public appearances and has only clandestinely “communicated” with very few people.
“Furthermore, details of President Buhari’s health status have been kept away from the generality of Nigerians while his media team and other members of his cabinet/party make conflicting comments regarding his health.”
“We acknowledge that during this period, President Buhari has satisfied constitutional requirements by transmitting letters to the National Assembly handing power over to his Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, on an acting capacity.”
“However, during this period, President Buhari has created a constitutional dilemma by carrying out official functions. On February 13, 2018 in a capacity as President of Nigeria, he spoke to President Donald Trump of the United States with respect to bilateral relations between the two countries.”
“On Thursday March 2nd, 2017 again in a capacity as President of Nigeria President Buhari spoke to the King of Morocco with respect to bilateral relations between the two countries as well as Morocco’s application to become a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).”
“These actions, as well as President Buhari’s continued vacation, constitute a constitutional dilemma capable of destabilising the country. President Buhari’s insistence on performing the functions of President after having transmitted power to Ag. President Osinbajo in effect creates de-facto and de-jure, which does not bode well for the country.”
“To this end, we urge President Buhari to return to the country on or before the 60th day after which he left the country (15 days from today) failing which we will begin a series of peaceful processions across the country aimed at sensitizing the public as to the legal & constitutional dilemma created by President Buhari’s continued absence from office and his insistence on performing official functions while away.”

[Naija News] || Acting President “Osinbajo” Orders All Oil Companies To Relocate Back To Niger Delta

– As part of efforts by the federal government to curtail the crisis in the Niger Delta, acting President Yemi Osinbajo has given a new directive to oil companies
– The acting president, who spoke in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, asked the petroleum minister, Ibe Kachikwu, to liaise with the oil companies to ensure this is done
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has reportedly asked all international oil companies operating in the Niger-Delta region but with head offices in other parts of Nigeria to relocate to the zone.
It is believed that this is the first time such order would be given by the presidency since 1999 when Nigeria returned to democratic rule.
It is widely known that the oil companies carry out their operations in the region that is now seriously affected by spillage, but have their head offices in Abuja and Lagos.
Vanguard reports that Osinbajo gave the directive at a town hall meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom which he visited as part of efforts to end the Niger-Delta crisis.
Osinbajo asked the minister of state for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu to begin the process of engaging the international oil firms to ensure the directive is adhered to since it was the right thing to do.
He revealed that the petroleum ministry was working with the oil firms working on illegal refineries to establish modular refineries to achieve the desired result.
He further noted that the ministry of Petrolum and the Presidential Amnesty Office are doing their best with state governments in the Niger Delta to the benefit of the youths in the area.
Emphasizing that the government was committed on the Ibaka deep Sea port project, he added: “Indeed as a matter of fact, in the 2017 budget there is already a provision for the Ibaka port. There is already N1billion provision.
“It is a matter we take seriously to partner with the Akwa Ibom state government.”
He also pleaded with the region to attract private investments in their domain in order to boost employment for the youths.
In his earlier position, Governor Udom Emmanuel pleaded with the federal government to integrate Akwa Ibom indigenes, who were left out in the amnesty programmes.
He also pleaded for the reactivation of the Aluminum Smelter Company (ALSCON) at Ikot Abais local government area of the state to create more opportunities for the people.
“With facilities we have in ALSCON, we cannot see it anywhere in Africa; from the services, communication to power generation you can create seven profits centres,” he said.
